Community Begins With Participation

NDOP Community DMV welcomes eligible individuals who believe in our mission and are prepared to participate constructively in our community.

Why Join

What membership opens up

Membership offers opportunities to participate in cultural activities, community service, professional networking, family events, leadership, committees, educational programmes, and community decision-making according to membership status.

Cultural participation

Take part in heritage celebrations, cultural programming and the work of passing our traditions to the next generation.

Community & family life

Gatherings, recreation, wellness activities and a network of families who show up for one another.

Professional networking

Connect with professionals, entrepreneurs and business owners across the DMV — and share opportunities.

Youth & mentorship

Enrol your children in cultural learning, or mentor a young person yourself.

Leadership & committees

Serve on a committee, stand for office, and help shape organizational direction.

Community decision-making

Participate in the General Assembly and vote on organizational matters, according to membership status.
Eligibility

Who may become a member

Voting membership is generally open to individuals of Ndop extraction or heritage residing in the United States, predominantly — but not exclusively — in the DMV region, who:

  • Support the mission of NDOP Community DMV
  • Demonstrate good character and respectful conduct
  • Complete the membership process
  • Agree to comply with the organization’s bylaws and approved policies

These criteria come directly from the governing document.

Applying is not the same as being admitted

Submitting an application does not by itself confer membership. Applications are verified by the Membership, Ethics & Grievance Committee and admitted under the process set out in the bylaws. You will be contacted about next steps.
Membership Categories

Four categories of membership

These categories are established in the revised constitution. Rights differ by category.

Active Member

Members in good standing who meet applicable participation and financial requirements. Active members may vote, hold office where eligible, participate on committees, and exercise other rights provided under the governing documents.

Probationary Member

New members ordinarily complete a six-month probationary period before acquiring full voting and member-event rights.

Inactive Member

Members whose status becomes inactive due to nonparticipation, arrears, approved leave, or another qualifying administrative reason.

Honorary Member

Individuals may be recognized for exceptional service to Ndop culture or the organization. Honorary status itself does not automatically confer voting rights.

Contribution requirements are held in the Member Portal

Active members can review current contribution requirements, event-support rules, eligibility requirements, and their own member records through the secure Member Portal. These details are not published on the public website.
